RPP Stories began as a private collection — an attempt to gather fiction worth returning to, organized not by genre but by the weight it carries. The categories emerged naturally: some stories press down on you, some sit comfortably in your hands, and some are the literary equivalent of a warm evening at an inn where nothing goes wrong.

The collection is curated, not comprehensive. Every story earns its place. This is not an archive of everything written, but a library of what we believe is worth reading — and worth reading again.

The Categories

Heavy fiction makes demands. It does not look away from difficult things. Characters carry real consequences. The prose can be beautiful in the way that a scar is beautiful — honestly. These are the stories that stay with you uncomfortably, which is precisely the point.

Medium fiction rewards attention without requiring suffering. These are stories with depth and warmth in proportion — rich enough that a second reading reveals things the first missed, accessible enough that you don't need to brace yourself before beginning.

Light fiction should never be mistaken for easy fiction. The best of it takes real skill: to write something that soothes without being saccharine, that surprises without shocking, that leaves you better than it found you. These are stories for the evenings when you need a story to simply be kind to you.

They are made objects, like furniture or songs. They deserve to be treated accordingly — read in full, remembered, occasionally argued with.

Curation is a form of respect

Saying no to most things in order to say yes to a few is not gatekeeping — it is stewardship. A library with no standards is just a pile.

We ask for it carefully. Every story in this collection has been chosen because we believe it returns more than it costs.
